Chiefs Re-Sign Mecole Hardman Jr.

The Kansas City Chiefs brought back wide receiver Mecole Hardman Jr. on a one-year contract. He’s played most of his five-season NFL career with the Chiefs, except for a six-game stint with the New York Jets last season.

Hardman is widely known for catching the game-winning overtime touchdown pass from Patrick Mahomes in Super Bowl 58. That play made the Chiefs back-to-back Super Bowl champions and big game winners in three of the last five seasons.

The former Georgia standout wouldn’t have that opportunity if the Jets didn’t trade him back to the Chiefs. Hardman requested a trade after completing just one reception in five games. Worst yet, he lost playing time to rookies Xavier Gipson and Jason Brownlee.

Hardman, a 2019 Second Team All-Pro return specialist, has 193 receptions, 2,500 yards, and 19 touchdowns as of the 2023 season (playoffs included). He has been a part of all three Super Bowl-winning teams during the Mahomes era.

He will join a receiving unit that added Marquise Brown and rookie Xavier Worthy this offseason.
