Caleb Williams, 4 Other First-Round Picks Remain Unsigned

With weeks left before training camps start, the Chicago Bears haven’t signed their first-round picks, Caleb Williams and Rome Odunze. Williams was the unanimous first-overall pick leading into the 2024 NFL Draft after winning the 2022 Heisman Trophy.

During negotiations, the Bears can take inspiration from the contract the Carolina Panthers offered Bryce Young. Last year’s top overall pick received a four-year, $37.9 million fully guaranteed contract with a $24.6 million signing bonus.

Williams’ side may negotiate for a slightly higher contract, but both aim to finish the deal before camp starts. Ironically, the Bears selected Williams using the pick they received from the Panthers.

Meanwhile, the Bears selected Odunze with their draft pick this year. He was a star for the Washington Huskies before Chicago took him ninth overall.

In addition to the Bears’ first-round selections, the Minnesota Vikings haven’t come to terms with their first-rounders, quarterback J.J. McCarthy and edge rusher Dallas Turner. The Vikings made McCarthy the fourth quarterback selected in the first round after trading up one spot for him. Seven picks later, they selected Turner after trading up again with the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Taken one spot after Turner is offensive tackle Amarius Mims. He hasn’t signed on the dotted line like the first four rookies.
