Strong safety John Johnson III has agreed to return to the Los Angeles Rams after signing a new contract. He entered free agency during the 2024 offseason but did not attract much interest from other teams. The terms of his new contract remain a secret.
Johnson started his career with the Rams after being selected in the third round of the 2017 NFL Draft. He played out his four-year, $3.25 million rookie scale deal with the Rams and appeared in all 16 games during the 2017, 2018, and 2020 seasons.
With his contract with the Rams over, he signed a three-year, $33.75 million contract with the Cleveland Browns. Despite having 101 tackles, four passes defended, and two fumble recoveries in 2022, the Browns released him after the season.

After his stint with the Browns, he returned to the Rams for the 2023 season on a one-year deal. While he played in only 11 games, he registered an interception against his former team and had six pass deflections.
The former Boston College standout has 554 tackles, 14 interceptions, and four forced fumbles in 97 career games. While Johnson will play for the Rams for the second consecutive season, he will technically be on his third stint with the squad because he entered free agency.
