Patrick Mahomes Win 2 ESPY Awards

Patrick Mahomes may feel like he is the king of the world. He led the Kansas City Chiefs to their second consecutive Super Bowl title and third in the last five seasons. He earned a Pro Bowl selection and his third Super Bowl Most Valuable Player award.

In addition to those accolades, he won big during the 2024 ESPY Awards. While he wasn’t in attendance at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, California, Mahomes won the Best Athlete, Men’s Sports award, beating 2023 MLB American League MVP Shohei Ohtani, 2024 NHL Conn Smythe Trophy (MVP) winner Connor McDavid, and professional golfer Scottie Scheffler (six PGA tour victories this year).

Meanwhile, he also won Best NFL Player over two-time NFL MVP Patrick Mahomes, reigning Offensive Player of the Year Christian McCaffrey, and 2023 Defensive Player of the Year Myles Garrett. Chiefs head coach Andy Reid accepted the trophies on Mahomes’ behalf.

The Chiefs were also nominated for Best Team, but the award went to the South Carolina women’s basketball team, who went 38-0 last season under head coach Dawn Staley.

These awards should motivate Mahomes for the 2024 NFL season. The Chiefs aspire to become the first NFL team to win three consecutive Super Bowl championships, and pulling off that feat could mean more ESPY Awards for Mahomes and the Chiefs in 2025.
