The Carolina Panthers placed running back Rashaad Penny on the reserve/retired list, signifying the end of his NFL career after six seasons. He signed with the Panthers last April and finalized his retirement three months later.
Before joining Carolina, Penny played one season for the Philadelphia Eagles (2023) and five for the Seattle Seahawks. Unfortunately, injuries derailed the promising career of the 27th overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft.
Penny had a promising start to his NFL career, tallying 419 rushing yards and two touchdowns in 14 games during his rookie campaign. However, he won't play that many games again in succeeding seasons. A torn ACL limited him to ten games in 2019 and placed him on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list to begin the 2020 season. He ended up playing in only three games that year.

After the Seahawks declined his fifth-year option, Penny had his best season as a pro, finishing with 749 rushing yards and six touchdowns in 2021. That performance prompted Seattle to give him a one-year contract extension worth up to $5.7 million.
However, a broken fibula limited him to five games in 2022, his final season with the Seahawks. Penny finished his NFL career with 352 carries for 1,980 rushing yards and 13 touchdowns in 46 career games (including playoffs).
