Bills Sign Veteran Safety Kareem Jackson

The Buffalo Bills and safety Kareem Jackson have agreed to a one-year contract. The terms of the deal remain undisclosed. If Jackson makes the final roster, he will play in his 15th NFL season. Buffalo needs help in the defensive secondary, especially at safety, after letting Micah Hyde and Jordan Poyer sign elsewhere.

The former Alabama standout played for the Houston Texans last season, reuniting him with former teammate DeMeco Ryans. Before Houston claimed him off waivers, Jackson played eight games for the Denver Broncos.

Illegal hits headlined Jackson's 2023 stint with the Broncos. In the first three weeks, he incurred fines for illegal hits, with Jakobi Meyers and Logan Thomas as some of the victims. The excessive physical penalties prompted the NFL to hand him a four-game suspension, which went down to two games after his appeal.

However, after returning from the suspension, he made another illegal hit on then-Minnesota Vikings quarterback Joshua Dobbs. The Broncos waived Jackson after his second suspension.

Jackson started his career with the Texans, who selected him 20th overall in the 2010 NFL Draft. His first stint with Houston lasted until 2018. As of the 2023 season, Jackson has 954 tackles, 22 interceptions, and 110 pass deflections in 203 regular season games.
