NFL Network national insider Ian Rapoport tweeted that Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert is dealing with an injury to the plantar fascia on his right foot. That condition forced him to wear a walking boot for two weeks.
However, Chargers fans can breathe easier because the team expects him to be ready for their 2024 season opener against the Las Vegas Raiders. Herbert's health will be vital to the team's success under new head coach Jim Harbaugh.
While his foot injury is minor, it's alarming that the former Oregon standout has been dealing with more injuries lately. He played only 13 games last season after suffering a broken index finger. Before that condition, he played all 17 regular-season games in 2021 and 2022.

He'll be in a boot for two weeks, then gradually work his way back. The team says it is with the expectation that he will be ready for the start of the season.
The Chargers hope Herbert's foot injury won't lead to further complications, especially after signing him to a five-year, $262.5 million contract extension. But when healthy, the 2020 Offensive Rookie of the Year is among the league's best quarterbacks.
Before his injury-shortened 2023 season, Herbert had at least 4,300 passing yards in his first three years, including his 5,000-yard season in 2021. Those numbers earned him the all-time record for most consecutive 4,000-passing-yard seasons to start a career.
