In the latest installment of the Brandon Aiyuk-San Francisco 49ers saga, ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter tweeted that the team is willing to consider trade offers for the All-Pro wide receiver. However, it doesn’t mean a trade will occur because the team expressing interest must meet two crucial conditions.
First, they must satisfy Aiyuk's contract demands of being among the highest-paid wide receivers in the league. The wideout market exploded after some top stars signed contract extensions, led by Justin Jefferson's $140 million contract.
In addition to offering Aiyuk the contract extension he seeks, the 49ers must also agree to the compensation they will receive for one of their top players. Last season, the former Arizona State standout finished with 75 receptions for 1,342 yards and seven touchdowns, earning him an All-Pro selection.
As the 49ers open the trade conversations for Aiyuk, NBC Sports Bay Area's Matt Maiocco reported that the Cleveland Browns and the New England Patriots have been discussing the framework for the Aiyuk trade.
Meanwhile, a popular Twitter account by a certain "rickey" claims that Aiyuk will play for the Pittsburgh Steelers. However, Bleacher Report's NFL Insider Jordan Schultz refutes this claim. While there are no definitive updates regarding this situation, interested teams must complete this transaction as soon as possible because the season is a month away.
My back is against the wall, but Brandon Aiyuk will be a Pittsburgh Steeler. I'm going out on top. #TrustRickey
