The Kansas City Chiefs rewarded placekicker Harrison Butker with a four-year, $25.6 million contract extension that will keep him signed until the 2028 NFL season. As ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter pointed out, Butker represented himself during the negotiations.
Butker’s contract extension includes $17.75 million in guaranteed money. Meanwhile, his $6.4 million annual average makes him the highest-paid NFL kicker, edging Justin Tucker and Jake Elliott (both at $6 million).
While Butker played with the Chiefs during his rookie season, the Carolina Panthers selected him in the seventh round of the 2017 NFL Draft. However, the Chiefs signed the special teamer from Georgia Tech after the Panthers relegated him to the practice squad.
Since then, Butker has been instrumental in the Chiefs’ three Super Bowl-winning runs in five seasons. Last season, he converted the game-tying field that sent Super Bowl LVIII to overtime. Two seasons ago, he converted a 45-yard attempt to send the Chiefs to Super Bowl LVII. His nine field goals in the Super Bowl are an NFL record.
