Amarius Mims Dealing With A Strained Pec Injury

Cincinnati Bengals head coach Zac Taylor announced that rookie offensive tackle Amarius Mims will miss several weeks due to a strained pec injury. As a consolation, Taylor added that the injury is non-surgical and could be cured through rest and treatment.

However, the Bengals coach did not specify how many weeks Mims will sit out. That detail is vital because the 2024 NFL season starts in less than a month. Cincinnati selected the former Georgia standout with the 18th overall pick in the 2024 draft. He was the fifth offensive tackle selected after Joe Alt, JC Latham, Olu Fashanu, and Taliese Fuaga.

In an interview after his injury was announced, Mims said his focus now is to get his body right, hoping to be ready by Week 1. Once healed, he will be prepared to compete for a starting position. He is now second in Cincinnati's depth chart for right tackle behind Trent Brown.

Before joining the Bengals, Mims was a pivotal contributor to two national championship-winning teams at Georgia. In his final year under coach Kirby Smart, he received an overall grade of 75.6 from Pro Football Focus.

At the pro level, the Bengals hope Mims can help Orlando Brown Jr., Ted Karras, and Alex Cappa protect franchise quarterback Joe Burrow.
