Colt McCoy Officially Retires As An NFL Player

Quarterback Colt McCoy has announced his retirement as a National Football League player. He last played an NFL game in 2022, his 13th season in the league. However, he will stay close to the game he loves as an analyst for NBC Sports’ Big Ten football coverage.

The Cleveland Browns selected McCoy in the third round of the 2010 NFL Draft. He was a highly-touted prospect out of the University of Texas after winning the 2009 Maxwell Award and Quarterback of the Year.

After playing three seasons for the Browns, he played one season for the San Francisco 49ers before signing with the Washington Redskins. Of the five NFL teams he played for, McCoy had the longest stint with the Redskins, lasting for six seasons.

He signed with the Giants for the 2020 season and transferred to the Arizona Cardinals the following year. In his last NFL year, McCoy had 90 completions for 780 yards and a touchdown for the Cardinals. The Cardinals released him before the 2023 season, but no other team signed him.

An elbow injury was the final wedge in McCoy’s playing career. While he recovered well enough to play last season, he was left unsigned, which might have contributed to his retirement decision. McCoy will finish his NFL career with 764 completions for 7,975 yards, 34 touchdowns, and 32 interceptions. He also has two rushing touchdowns out of 582 yards.
