As teams finalized their initial 53-man roster for the 2024 NFL season, some notable quarterbacks were released or moved to injured reserve. While teams reduced their lineups before the August 27 deadline, they could make additional transactions, provided they don’t exceed the limit.
The Washington Commanders waived Sam Hartman, who went undrafted this year after playing at Wake Forest and Notre Dame. His release means the Commanders will proceed with Jayden Daniels, Marcus Mariota, and Jeff Driskel as their quarterbacks for 2024.
Meanwhile, the Buffalo Bills released Ben DiNucci 15 days after signing him. They brought in the quarterback from James Madison after Shane Buechele incurred a neck injury. He was with the Denver Broncos earlier in the offseason but never made it past the practice squad.
The New England Patriots waived Bailey Zappe after two seasons. Last year, he was also included in the team's final roster cuts. However, the Patriots resigned him to their practice squad before he reached the active roster. Zappe played in ten games for the Patriots in 2023, finishing with 127 completions for 1,272 yards, six touchdowns, and nine interceptions.
Just two members of the 2022 QB class are still with their original teams.

Finally, the Arizona Cardinals waived Desmond Ridder. The Atlanta Falcons traded him to Arizona after signing Kirk Cousins. However, his release means that Clayton Tune will be Kyler Murray's backup with the Cardinals. In two seasons with the Falcons, Ridder has 322 completions for 3,544 yards, 14 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions.
