As teams finalized their initial 53-man roster for the 2024 NFL season, some notable tight ends were released or moved to injured reserve. While teams reduced their lineups before the August 27 deadline, they could make additional transactions, provided they don’t exceed the limit.
Jelani Woods is facing some tough luck because he will miss a second consecutive season after the Indianapolis Colts placed him on injured reserve due to a toe injury that required surgery. He has played only one season after the Colts selected him in the third round of the 2022 NFL Draft.
The Los Angeles Rams placed Tyler Higbee on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list, meaning he won't play for at least the first four Rams regular season games. Higbee is still recovering from the torn ACL and MCL he suffered during the Rams' Wild Card Round match against the Detroit Lions.

Finally, T.J. Hockenson is also on the Minnesota Vikings' PUP list because of the ACL and MCL tears he suffered during their Week 16 game against the Lions last year. Before the injury, he had established career highs in receptions (95) and receiving yards (960), with five touchdowns in 15 games.
