The Browns Were Willing To Go All In For Brandon Aiyuk

Brandon Aiyuk will eventually remain with the San Francisco 49ers after agreeing to a four-year, $120 million contract extension. The negotiations may have been long and often shaky, but the All-Pro wideout's return bolsters the Niners' offense.

However, in a parallel universe, the Cleveland Browns might have acquired the former Arizona State standout because they were willing to surrender massive resources for Aiyuk. Sports Illustrated reported that the Browns were ready to give the 49ers second and third-round picks with Amari Cooper.

It’s an enticing deal because it includes the five-time Pro Bowl wide receiver who tallied 72 receptions for 1,250 yards and five touchdowns last season. Those numbers were comparable to Aiyuk’s 2023 output (75 receptions, 1,342 yards, seven touchdowns).

Likewise, it's a hefty price tag for Cleveland because they could be giving up on potential starters who could be selected with the early-round selections.

As the 2024 season opener draws near, Aiyuk will continue to wear the 49ers’ gold and scarlet red insignias. The Niners could make a return Super Bowl trip with an explosive offense featuring Aiyuk, Deebo Samuel, George Kittle, and Christian McCaffrey.

Meanwhile, the Browns will still have a respectable roster despite missing out on Aiyuk. Cooper and Jerry Jeudy will lead their passing attack while Jerome Ford takes over for Nick Chubb, who is on injured reserve due to his 2023 Week 2 knee injury. Cleveland has the components of a postseason contender, especially if Deshaun Watson regains his Pro Bowl form.
