Xavier Worthy Impressive In His NFL Debut

The Kansas City Chiefs selected wide receiver Xavier Worthy in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft after establishing an NFL Combine record of 4.21 seconds in the 40-yard dash. The rookie from Texas proved to the two-time defending Super Bowl champions that he was the right choice.

During his NFL debut and the 2024 season opener against the Baltimore Ravens, Worthy needed just three touches to score two touchdowns. His first points came off a 21-yard touchdown run in the 5:55 mark of the first quarter, which is a part of the Chiefs’ five-play, 67-yard opening offensive drive for 2024.

Worthy’s second touchdown was a 35-yard catch from Patrick Mahomes in the fourth quarter, extending the Chiefs’ lead to 27-17. The former Longhorn left All-Pro cornerback Marlon Humphrey behind to cross the end zone untouched. The Ravens failed to overcome the ten-point deficit as the Chiefs opened their season with a 27-20 victory.

Worthy made another 12-yard catch in the 7:14 mark of the second quarter to complete his output for the game. The 2023 First-Team All-Big 12 member finished his first NFL game with 68 yards and two touchdowns, translating to 20.8 points in fantasy football PPR mode.

This impressive start from Worthy makes him a marked man against future opponents. The Chiefs will face the Cincinnati Bengals, Atlanta Falcons, Los Angeles Chargers, and New Orleans Saints before their Week 6 bye. Therefore, while repeating this success will be challenging, it’s a testament that he belongs in the NFL.
