Changing Of The Guard Imminent After Isaiah Likely's Impressive Season Opener

All-Pro Mark Andrews has been the preeminent tight end for the Baltimore Ravens for the longest time. However, 24-year-old Isaiah Likely might have staked his claim after an impressive performance during the 2024 season-opener against the Baltimore Ravens.

Despite the 27-20 defeat, Likely finished the game with nine catches for a game-leading 111 yards and a touchdown. He could have had more if his final catch in the Chiefs end zone counted. Unfortunately, he was out of bounds by a toe, giving Kansas City the victory.

Likely’s touchdown catch came in the 14:47 mark of the fourth quarter when he caught a 49-yard strike from Lamar Jackson. He also had catches in the other two Ravens' scoring drives, resulting in two Justin Tucker field goals. Likely’s output against Kansas City translates to 26.1 points in fantasy football points-per-reception mode.

In comparison, Andrews had two catches for 14 yards. If this trend continues, Likely will overtake Andrews in the depth chart for good. He impressively fulfilled this role last season after Andrews suffered a season-ending ankle injury. If the Ravens make Likely their TE1, the fourth-year player from Coastal Carolina will be an asset to Baltimore’s offense.
