It took a while before things got done, but quarterback Dak Prescott and the Dallas Cowboys agreed to a four-year, $240 million contract extension. That deal makes Prescott the highest-paid player in NFL history in terms of annual average value and keeps him under contract with Dallas until 2028.
Prescott’s massive contract extension includes $231 million in guaranteed money and an $80 million signing bonus. Likewise, his $60 million annual average obliterates the $55 million average shared by Trevor Lawrence, Joe Burrow, and Jordan Love.
The All-Pro quarterback from Mississippi State faced the danger of playing the 2024 NFL season without an extension. However, both parties finalized the agreement a day before the Cowboys faced the Cleveland Browns for their season opener. Prescott’s contract extension came after the Cowboys secured CeeDee Lamb with a four-year, $136 million deal.
Prescott finished that game with 19 completions for 179 receiving yards and a touchdown. While it didn’t reflect his true capabilities, his output was enough to help the Cowboys dominate the Browns, 33-17. Prescott can bounce back with a stronger performance in Week 2 against the New Orleans Saints.
Before his latest contract, Prescott signed a four-year, $160 million with Dallas after offering him two franchise tags. Meanwhile, he deserved this deal after finishing the 2023 season with 410 completions for 4,516 yards and a league-leading 36 touchdowns.
