Malik Willis To Start For Packers After Jordan Love's Injury

After Jordan Love’s injury during the NFL’s first-ever game in Brazil, the Green Bay Packers are left with Malik Willis as the starting quarterback for their succeeding games. The Packers traded for Willis last August, giving the Tennessee Titans a 2025 seventh-round selection.

Love suffered an MCL sprain in the latter minutes of their game against the Philadelphia Eagles. To make matters worse, the Packers lost their 2024 season opener to Philadelphia in Sao Paulo’s Arena Corinthians.

While NFL Network insider Tom Pelissero reported that Love could be sidelined for up to six weeks, the Packers won’t place him on injured reserve because he could return before the minimum four-week mandated for players on IR.

It’s an unfortunate development after Love finished with 17 completions for 260 passing yards, two touchdowns, and an interception. However, while it’s still early in the season, Willis’ performance will help Green Bay’s postseason chances.

Willis had one passing attempt and was sacked once during their loss to the Eagles. After the Tennessee Titans selected him in the third round of the 2022 NFL Draft, the former Liberty standout played in only 11 games over two seasons while being overtaken by Will Levis in the depth chart.

Meanwhile, Love will miss some games in the first season of his four-year, $220 million contract extension. It’s a minor setback for the player they envision to become a franchise quarterback like Brett Favre and Aaron Rodgers.
