Jayden Daniels Off To A Good Start For Commanders

The Washington Commanders had high expectations for quarterback Jayden Daniels when they selected him second overall in the 2024 NFL Draft. They hoped he could bring his Heisman Trophy-level game to the NFL. The gamble is paying off as Daniels established a milestone two games into the season.

The league’s official account on X (formerly Twitter) cited that since 1970, Daniels became the first rookie quarterback selected in the first round to have over 500 passing yards without an interception through his first two starts.

Daniels started his NFL career with 184 passing yards, 88 rushing yards, and two touchdowns against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. A week later, he led the Commanders to victory over the New York Giants, tallying 23 completions for 226 yards and ten carries for 44 yards.

While he hasn’t thrown a touchdown pass, he isn’t turning over the ball either. Likewise, he’s picking his spots to keep their drives going using his mobility. That’s why he gains 5.1 yards per carry and ten first downs with his feet.

Maintaining this performance level could make him one of the leading candidates for the 2024 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year award. However, before getting there, Daniels must do well in their Week 3 road game against Joe Burrow and the Cincinnati Bengals.
