FYFFL wins Blackout

Rob Rinehart from Petaluma, CA and his team FYFFL win Week 3 of the Blackout with 218.85 points.

In a wild week that saw sleepers, backups and struggling players on struggling teams claim many of the top spots, Rob hit on both of the top QBs, the WR2 and the TE1 to take the top score. Week 4 of the Blackout is live

There were several roads to the Top Five this week. The only players featured on all five were Ja’Marr Chase(WR2) and Brandon Aiyuk(WR33). Rob sidestepped Devon Achane(RB23) and was one of just two in the Top Five to hit on Dallas Goedert(TE1) which was enough to claim the top spot. Check out this week’s winning roster:

The field struggled again this week but I don’t think it’s fair to point any fingers. The Blackout rebounded, taking six of the top scoring players off the table. There was very little reason to predict Jauan Jennings WR1 performance for the 49ers or Chuba Hubbard’s shocking RB2 performance in the Panther’s mashing of the Raiders after looking like a historically inept team in the early going. Amari Cooper’s WR3 outing in another tough game for the Browns was also a surprise. While AJ Brown’s absence likely led to Dallas Godert(TE1) seeing a reasonable 16% roster rate, the three managers who selected Cole Kmet(TE2) showed far more faith in the Bears than the first two games ought to have inspired. The top scores from outside the player pool came from Raiders third year WR Tre Tucker, who’s 7 receptions on 9 targets for 96 yards and a TD nearly doubled his career targets and nearly tripled his career yardage. Tucker would have been the WR8 on the week had he been eligible.

Week 3 hit in some of the predictable spots. Kyren Williams(RB1), Johnathan Taylor(RB5) and Ja’Marr Chase(WR2) were safe plays that returned value. Other stud players like Brandon Aiyuk(WR33), Devon Achane(RB23) and Travis Kelce(TE11) led many managers astray. The most popular roster put up the fewest points of the year in Week 3, 142.85, an underwhelming 43% of the available points. Take a look at the most selected roster of Week 3:

A little feedback from a long time customer.

Our fantasy pool is entering its 25^th year and I have used multiple books and on-line tools over the years.

I have locked on to Fantasy Index as my go to for the last 5 years and have won the pool 3 of those years and finished no lower than 4^th.

Interesting to see how much more accurate you were at the end of the year compared to other books my competitors used.

I have used your product for the past 18 years or so… Every now and then I will be tempted and look at what other magazines have to offer, quickly realizing no one comes close.

In addition to the magazine, I started buying the weekly updates years ago when my dad taught me a lesson. The draft came and dad was sitting in the 12 hole for his pick. He told me he felt very comfortable about who he was going to select but would not tell me who his prized gem was to be. I was doubtful. The pick? Priest Holmes (his first dynamite year). I remember telling my dad, "that is a decent pick but they plan to pull him at the goal line." Ever the teacher, dad explained he had purchased the Fantasy Football Index update and read Holmes would get the goal line carries. "Update?", I asked. That was 2002 and Holmes had 21 rushing TDs and Dad won the title! Lesson learned.

By the way, I have made the title game for the last 5 years in a row. Thanks for the detailed, hard work and an great product!
