Jaelan Phillips Out For The Season Due To Knee Injury

The Miami Dolphins have announced that outside linebacker Jaelan Phillips will sit out the remainder of the 2024 NFL season after suffering a knee injury during their Week 4 Monday Night Football game against the Tennessee Titans.

Phillips suffered the injury after teammate Jordan Poyer’s helmet collided with his knee while they were in pursuit of Titans running back Tony Pollard. The edge rusher was initially brought to the locker room for testing.

Initially, he was healthy enough to continue the game while wearing a brace. Unfortunately, Phillips checked out of the game for good in the third quarter. As his 2024 campaign ends prematurely, he has announced that he will undergo reconstructive surgery on his injured knee. The linebacker finished the season with one sack, six tackles, two passes defended, two quarterback hits, and eight pressures.

Sadly, this season-ending injury had him playing in only 12 games over the last two seasons. He missed nine games last year due to various injuries, including a torn right Achilles. It’s a depressing development for a player who showed much promise in his first two seasons with the Dolphins.

After being selected in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft, Phillips registered 15.5 sacks and 41 quarterback hits in 2021 and 2022 combined. Fast-forward to 2024, and he will be looking to recover and perform better in 2025, which he might play under the fifth-year option of his rookie scale contract.
