Following the team’s 23-17 loss to the Minnesota Vikings at London, the New York Jets have fired head coach Robert Saleh. Multiple reports revealed that security personnel escorted Saleh off the team premises and he wasn’t allowed to address the team before leaving. Jeff Ulbrich will serve as the Jets’ interim head coach.
Jets owner Woody Johnson released a statement regarding Saleh’s termination, saying:
”This morning, I informed Robert Saleh that he will no longer serve as the Head Coach of the Jets. I thanked him for his hard work these past three-and-a-half years and wished him and his family well moving forward. This was not an easy decision, but we are not where we should be given our expectations, and I believe now is the best time for us to move in a different direction.”

The Jets hired Saleh in 2021 and signed him to a five-year contract. The 2024 NFL season was the penultimate season of that deal. Therefore, Saleh will still earn money even if he’s not coaching the team anymore. Before joining the Jets, he was a highly touted defensive coordinator for the San Francisco 49ers, helping transform that unit into one of the league’s best.

However, Saleh’s tenure with the New York’s AFC team wasn’t as fruitful. He finished with a 20-36 record and zero playoff stints. During his stint, Saleh had six starting quarterbacks: Tim Boyle, Trevor Siemian, Joe Flacco, Mike White, Zach Wilson, and Aaron Rodgers.
Any other team, especially those wanting to boost their defense, could sign Saleh, even if his contract with the Jets won’t expire until 2025.
