Jordan Mason Has Been Sensational For 49ers

San Francisco 49ers fans were concerned after reigning Offensive Player of the Year Christian McCaffrey was diagnosed with Achilles tendonitis on both knees. The team’s offense could become stagnant without their biggest threat. However, Jordan Mason has impressively filled the role of his All-Pro teammate.

Mason has 536 yards after five games, trailing only Derrick Henry in the rushing yards race. The running back from Georgia has a rushing touchdown in three of the five games. He might not be as imposing as McCaffrey in the passing game, but he contributes where the team needs him most.

Mason never had fewer than 77 rushing yards in those five games. He reached the century mark three times, starting with the 49ers season opener against the New York Jets, wherein he finished with 28 carries for 147 yards and a touchdown.

A week later, Mason had precisely 100 rushing yards and a touchdown in a loss to the Minnesota Vikings. He also finished with 123 yards and a touchdown against the New England Patriots. Last week, Mason registered 89 rushing yards on 14 carries versus the Arizona Cardinals.

While the 49ers have a losing record (2-3) after five games, Mason has surpassed his totals from 2022 and 2023. He had 258 rushing yards and a touchdown during his rookie year, and 206 yards the following year.

Mason is the star of the Niners backfield until McCaffrey returns. Therefore, they are hoping for a big game from him when San Francisco goes on the road to face their division rival, the Seattle Seahawks.
