Saints Place WR Rashid Shaheed On Season-Ending Injured Reserve

New Orleans Saints wide receiver Rashid Shaheed is starting the 2024 NFL season well. He led the team in receiving yards (349) through six weeks with 20 receptions and three touchdowns. Unfortunately, he won’t go any further after the team placed him on season-ending injured reserve.

Shaheed received that disappointing predicament due to a meniscus tear that required surgery. There was hope that the wideout from Weber State could return to action after the operation. However, the damage was so extensive that it might take Shaheed four to six months to recover.

Before the season-ending injury, Shaheed was poised to have a breakout season. He was on pace to surpass the 719 receiving yards and five touchdowns he collected last year. He must wait for 2025 to achieve that feat and potentially add to his accolades. Last season, he became a Pro Bowl and First-Team All-Pro return specialist after collecting 723 return yards and a touchdown.

Shaheed’s injury is another unfortunate plight for a shortened Saints receiver rotation. Chris Olave was out due to a concussion, leaving New Orleans with only five active receivers. Meanwhile, as a return specialist, Jermaine Jackson must step into Shaheed’s shoes. Despite these changes, the Saints want to end their five-game losing streak against the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 8.
