Titans Release Safety Jamal Adams

The Tennessee Titans are parting ways with safety Jamal Adams, granting his request for a release. Adams’ agents, Kevin Conner and Robert Brown of Universal Sports Management, confirmed the news to multiple sources, including ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter.

Adams requested a release to find a better opportunity. While he’s not dealing with an injury, he has played in only three of the Titans’ six games. The defensive back tallied four tackles in those matches and hasn’t done anything else.

The veteran safety missed Tennessee’s season opener against the Chicago Bears due to a hip injury. Since then, he wasn’t a central figure in the Titans' rotation, as he played only 20 snaps in three games. Therefore, the team placed him on the reserve/non-football injury list.

His fate is unfortunate for someone among the game’s best defensive backs. From 2018 to 2020, Adams was a Pro Bowler and an All-Pro-level athlete ranked 27th in the NFL Top 100. He also holds the record for most sacks by a defensive back in a season, tallying 9.5 in 2020.

However, it’s challenging to envision a team taking a gamble on him after his disappointing stint with the Titans. Worst yet, he’s played only 13 games in the last three seasons, indicating he’s not the same player who terrorized opponents on offense.
