As the trade deadline for the 2024 NFL season loomed, the Cincinnati Bengals made adjustments to their backfield by acquiring Khalil Herbert from the Chicago Bears for a 2025 7th-round pick. Meanwhile, the Dallas Cowboys traded for wide receiver Jonathan Mingo and a 2025 seventh-rounder. In return, Dallas gave up a 2025 fourth-rounder to the Carolina Panthers.
The Bengals traded for Herbert after placing Zack Moss on injured reserve due to a neck injury that forced him out of their Week 9 game against the Las Vegas Raiders. Cincinnati is having good momentum lately, winning three of their last four games. Hence, they need another runner to complement Chase Brown and balance their passing attack with Joe Burrow, Ja’Marr Chase, and Tee Higgins.

The Bears selected Herbert in the sixth round of the 2024 NFL Draft. Before joining the Bengals, he had 372 carries for 1,791 yards and 11 touchdowns in 45 games. However, he was limited to eight carries for 16 yards and a touchdown in six games this season because of increased playing time by D’Andre Swift and Roschon Johnson.
Meanwhile, the Panthers selected Mingo in the second round of the 2023 NFL Draft. He has 55 catches for 539 yards in 24 games. Mingo joins a Cowboys squad that lost five of their first eight games and won’t have Dak Prescott indefinitely due to a hamstring injury.
