Christian McCaffrey Could Be Done For The 2024 NFL Season

The San Francisco 49ers are living a nightmare. From a Super Bowl stint last season, they are 5-7 through Week 13 and are in danger of missing the playoffs. Christian McCaffrey’s struggles to stay healthy this season significantly affect their winning conditions.

Worst yet, McCaffrey might not finish the season after suffering an injury on his posterior cruciate ligament during their Sunday Night Football game against the Buffalo Bills. The reigning NFL Offensive Player of the Year was injured in the first half and did not return to the game.

After the game, 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan announced that McCaffrey’s injury would entail a recovery period of up to six weeks. Hence, the Niners placed McCaffrey on injured reserve, and he could only return if his team made the playoffs.

Conversely, McCaffrey has had a forgetful 2024 season, a stark contrast from last year’s performance. In 2023, he led the league in yards from scrimmage and had 21 total touchdowns. This year, he has 348 total yards in four games.

Earlier this year, McCaffrey consulted with an expert in Germany regarding his Achilles tendonitis. That concern prompted the Niners to place him on injured reserve by Week 2. He made his 2024 debut in Week 10 and hasn’t done much to help his team’s cause.
