Through Week 13, the Philadelphia Eagles defense ranks first in total yards allowed (282.8), third in passing yards allowed (178), and fourth in points allowed (18.2) per game. While they have an enviable talent collection on that side of the ball, getting Quinyon Mitchell is a massive upgrade to their pass defense.
As NFL writer Thomas R. Petersen tweeted, Mitchell’s victims feature the NFL’s top wide receivers. The rookie from Toledo blanked Zay Flowers and Terry McLaurin. The most yards he’s surrendered is 23 yards to Chris Olave. More importantly, he hasn’t allowed a touchdown catch despite facing the league’s best pass catchers. Here’s the complete list of Mitchell’s achievements against wide receivers this season:
- Zay Flowers: zero yards
- Cooper Kupp: five yards
- Puka Nacua: 14 yards
- Terry McLaurin: zero yards
- CeeDee Lamb: five yards
- Ja’Marr Chase: 16 yards
- Malik Nabers: nine yards
- Amari Cooper: ten yards
- Mike Evans: 19 yards
- Chris Olave: 23 yards
- Drake London: five yards
In 12 games, Mitchell has ten passes defended and 29 solo tackles. However, shutting down this impressive list of wideouts could earn him a Pro Bowl nod in his rookie season.

More importantly, Mitchell is helping the Eagles sustain their status as one of the league’s best teams. Likewise, Mitchell’s emergence is another feather in the cap to general manager Howie Roseman’s acumen.
