John L. Wins Blackout

John F Lesjack from Cranberry Township, PA and his team John L. win Week 18 of the Blackout with 228.25 points.

In a rough and tumble final week that saw heaps of points left on the table, John managed to paint the corners with his WR3, Jakobi Meyers, His PK2, Cade York and his DST2 the Cincinnati Bengals propelling him to victory.

An immense thank you to everyone for participating in the Fantasy Index Blackout this season! It was a different Blackout, and it’s hard to argue with the parity this year compared to last, but if you do have feedback please reach out in the comments or email me at ben@fantasyindex.com. I’m happy to consider any ideas or reactions when planning the 2025 version of the contest.

The 2024 Blackout in Review article will be out later this week, and I’ll have some additional data for the spreadsheet addicts at that time, so keep an eye out!

Baker Mayfield(QB8) was on all five of the top rosters this week and Bo Nix(QB2) was on four, but not on the winning roster. Selecting Kyler Murray(QB4) put John in a hole. At wide receiver John made an excellent move selecting Jakobi Meyers(WR3). Drake London(WR4) was on all five rosters and Courtland Sutton(WR6) was on four but it was Jakobi Meyers' 27.3 fantasy points that gave John L. an 8.5 point win at the position and opened the door to victory. Selecting Cade York(PK3) and the Cincinnati Bengals(DST7) also helped John to differentiate as neither appeared on another roster in the top 5. Check out this week’s winning roster:

The Blackout struggled this week along with everyone. In a wild turn of events the seven running backs that were ineligible finished with the seven highest scores. Nothing close to that has happened in the two season’s I’ve been running the Blackout. Otherwise, only the PK1 Cameron Dicker and the DST2 Baltimore Ravens were unavailable. Only four out of the thirteen top scoring positions appeared on 6% or more of rosters highlighted by WR2 Quentin Johnson who wasn’t selected by a single manager. The Wisdom of the Crowd roster should be given some leeway in the final week since the variables go up dramatically but there were some busts. Leading the way was Jordan Addison(WR37) who was shutout by the Lions Defense on 52% of rosters. Jaxon Smith-Njigba(WR30) let down 29% of managers and the Chargers and Falcons defenses combined for just 2.00 points. Courtland Sutton(WR6) and Bo Nix(QB2) did make the cut but 159 points is third-lowest total of the season and 53% of the maximum points, the second lowest share this year. Compared with last season the 2024 Blackout has been very competitive. After seventeen weeks less than a point separated 1st and 2nd place on the overall leader board and 5th place was less than 20 points off the pace. Now we have a winner and the margin of victory is actually larger than last year. Tom Take Two leapt from 2nd overall to a dominant victory with a 42.35 point margin by finishing 2nd in Week 18 Here’s a look at the Top 25 Overall:
