Variety Blues Wins Blackout

Gary Arnoldine and his team Variety Blues win Week 17 of the Blackout with 266.45 points.

Gary was one of the few managers to select Ladd McConkey(WR3) and that choice propelled him to the top spot.

Thanks to everyone for participating in Week 17 of the Blackout. It was a wild one with the Top 5 players at each position active for the holiday games. We had a bit of a Y2K situation this week which is the reason both the Week 18 contest and the write up were delayed. For this final contest I’ve made some additional tweaks to the player pool in an attempt to limit the obvious choices a bit. The top of the leader board is such a close battle this season, hopefully this will give everyone an opportunity to differentiate themselves with some deeper picks.

Week 18 of the Blackout is live

The Top 5 was close fought this week with just 7.2 points dividing 1st from 5th. Joe Burrow(QB1) appeared on all five top rosters and Jayden Daniels(QB4) made four. Justin Jefferson(WR18) was featured on all five, while Trey McBride(TE1), Brock Bowers(TE7) and the Philadelphia Defense(DST1) made four of the five. Gary’s team, Variety Blues, made his hay at WR where he was the only top manager to select Ladd McConkey(WR3) who’s 29.40 points gave Gary a 10.25 point advantage at the position, and the win. The Blackout performed surprisingly well considering the crowd friendly format. Five of the top scoring players were unavailable including Jonathan Taylor(RB1). Tee Higgins(WR1), Devonta Smith(WR2) and Zach Ertz(TE2) were the players from the perfect scoring roster that slipped through the cracks. Only a handful of managers hit on those breakout performances. Honestly, it’s almost as surprising that someone actually selected the Giants Defense as it is that they finished DST2 in one of the most unexpected upsets to ever ruin a fantasy championship. Despite selecting just three of the top scoring players this week, the Wisdom of the Crowd roster up the highest score of the season, 251.35 points, which is also the highest percentage of the available points this year, 74%. There are not any busts this week as guys like Josh Allen(QB8), Saquon Barkley(RB5) and Ja’Marr Chase(WR14) put up good numbers despite falling short of the pinnacle of their position groups. Week 17 brought further chaos atop the leaderboard. Bull 51 continued his meteoric climb with a 5th place finish which propelled him all the way to 1st place. He has two top 20 and two top 10 finishes in the last five weeks. Tom Take Two held onto 2nd with an 18th place finish on the week. Northern King slipped from the top spot down to 3rd behind a 64th place weekly finish. Another former leader, Joe Kapp, held steady in 4th place by finishing 52nd and MAYORNICK1960 squeezed his way into the top 5 behind his 69th place finish. Bull 51 goes into the final week clinging to a razor thin 0.95 point margin. In fact, just 18.15 points separate 5th place from winning the whole contest.
