Jets Interview Three Candidates for their Head Coaching Position

The New York Jets have started the search for their next head coach, completing or requesting interviews with three high-profile candidates. The hired coach will replace Jeff Ulbrich, who served as interim after Robert Saleh's firing.

The Jets have interviewed the Kansas City Chiefs’ coordinators, Steve Spagnuolo (defense) and Matt Nagy (offense). Nagy has been with the Chiefs since 2022 and has been on two Super Bowl-winning teams. Before joining Kansas City, he was the Chicago Bears' head coach for four seasons, finishing with a 34-31 record and two playoff appearances.

Meanwhile, Spagnuolo won four Super Bowls, three with the Chiefs and one with the New York Giants in Super Bowl XLII. He was also the head coach of the St. Louis Rams for three seasons, compiling a 10-38 record. In addition to those teams, Spagnuolo had coaching stints with the Philadelphia Eagles, New Orleans Saints, and Baltimore Ravens.

Finally, the Jets have interviewed Rex Ryan for the head coaching vacancy. Ryan, who was the Jets' head coach from 2009 to 2014, was the last coach to lead the team to the playoffs. Under his guidance, the Jets reached consecutive AFC Championship Games in 2009 and 2010 but failed to win both games. Ryan finished with a 50-52 record as Jets head coach and 15-16 as Buffalo Bills head coach.

The New York Jets finished the 2024 NFL season at 5-12. In addition to Saleh, the team fired Joe Douglas as general manager.
