The Cleveland Browns had high hopes after signing Pro Bowl quarterback Deshaun Watson to a five-year, $230 million fully guaranteed contract. Sadly, the franchise hasn’t reaped favorable results from that massive investment.
However, as several news sources pointed out, the Browns can get away from the contract by highlighting a recent TikTok video. With Watson dealing with an Achilles tear, he must be wearing a protective boot during the recovery period. However, he was seen wearing no boot in the said clip.
If things go to the Browns’ favor, they could take back $92 million in guarantees owed to Watson. That amount could provide big cap relief for the struggling franchise. Watson has played only 19 games in three seasons with the Browns. Throughout those years, Watson threw 341 completions for 3,365 passing yards, 19 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions. The former Clemson standout went 9-10 in the games he played for Cleveland.
He played only six games in 2022 after serving an 11-game suspension for violating the league’s personal conduct policy stemming from his alleged sexual misconduct cases. A year later, he underwent season-ending surgery to repair his throwing shoulder. Sadly, a non-contact leg injury ended his season after seven games.
