New England Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel fills his staff by hiring a familiar face in Foxborough. Josh McDaniels will return to New England for his third stint as offensive coordinator. Under Bill Belichick, McDaniels had a hand in New England’s six Super Bowl victories. However, he was the offensive coordinator for the last three Super Bowl wins.
McDaniels’ record in New England earned him head coaching jobs elsewhere. The Denver Broncos hired him in 2009, but he lasted only 28 games over two seasons. He didn’t finish the 2010 season with Denver due to his 3-9 record.
A dozen years later, he would become the Las Vegas Raiders head coach, but that gig didn’t turn out well. McDaniels won only nine of 25 games before getting fired. He has a 20-33 head coaching record and never guided Denver and Las Vegas to the playoffs.

In addition to being an offensive coordinator, McDaniels also worked as a defensive assistant and quarterbacks coach with the Patriots.
Meanwhile, the exodus of Detroit Lions assistant coaches continues as former defensive line coach Terrell Williams joins New England as defensive coordinator. Williams and Vrabel have worked together during their time with the Tennessee Titans. Williams follows Ben Johnson (Chicago Bears) and Aaron Glenn (New York Jets) as former Lions assistants moving elsewhere after Detroit’s Divisional Round loss to the Washington Commanders.
