Mason Crosby Retires After 17 NFL Seasons

Placekicker Mason Crosby has announced his retirement from the National Football League. He shared the news during the February 4 episode of his eponymous radio program on Milwaukee’s 105.7 The Fan. While he didn’t play last season, he still ranks 11th in most points scored in an NFL career.

Crosby last played for the New York Giants, converting five out of seven field goal attempts and connecting on six extra points in three games. The special teamer from Colorado joined the Giants after the Los Angeles Rams released him from their practice squad.

However, with the Green Bay Packers, he became one of the league’s best players in his position. The Packers selected him in the sixth round of the 2007 NFL Draft and stayed with the NFC North team until the 2022 season. During that time, he helped the Packers win Super Bowl XLV over the Pittsburgh Steelers, leading the league in scoring during his rookie year.

Mason Crosby converted 81.3 percent of his field goal attempts (400 of 492). He’s also had 508 touchbacks from kickoffs and had a career-long 58-yard field goal. He also holds the record for most consecutive postseason field goals with 23 and is the Packers’ all-time leading scorer with 2,081 points. Spotrac estimates Crosby’s career earnings at $44.8 million.
