Travis Kelce’s subpar performance during Super Bowl LIX intensified talks about his retirement. The All-Pro tight end, who typically shines during big moments, failed to deliver, and his age could be a factor.
While Kelce has been integral to the Chiefs’ recent success, the team has given him a deadline to finalize his plans. Multiple reports confirmed that the Chiefs gave Kelce until March 14 to decide if he will play next season.
The 2025 NFL season will be the final year under Kelce’s current contract. He will receive a $12.5 million roster bonus if he commits to Kansas City for the upcoming season. While his Super Bowl LIX performance takes away from his good season (97 catches, 823 yards, three touchdowns), his retirement could be a cap-saving move for the Chiefs.
Spotrac reveals that the Chiefs have $5.38 million in cap space for 2025. That amount might not be enough to upgrade their offensive line and protect Patrick Mahomes, which has been an immediate concern after the last Super Bowl unfolded.
