Jalen Hurts the First $50 million QB to win Super Bowl

Jalen Hurts signed his five-year, $255 million contract extension after the Philadelphia Eagles lost Super Bowl LVII against the Kansas City Chiefs. However, with how their 2023 NFL season unfolded, some critics ponder whether it was a good investment.

Two years later, Hurts led the Eagles to a Super Bowl victory against the Chiefs. That victory makes him the first NFL quarterback with an annual average value of at least $50 million to win a Super Bowl.

Hurts triggered the trend of starting NFL quarterbacks getting at least $50 million annually in their contracts. After signing his deal, Lamar Jackson, Justin Herbert, Jared Goff, Tua Tagovailoa, Trevor Lawrence, Jordan Love, and Joe Burrow have annual average salaries of at least $52 million. Meanwhile, Dak Prescott signed a contract that gave him $60 million.

Luckily for the Eagles, Hurts had a manageable $13.5 million cap hit for the 2024 season, allowing general manager Howie Roseman to fortify the unit around him. Key additions like Mekhi Becton and Saquon Barkley helped the Eagles reach the top.
