The Philadelphia Eagles secondary will undergo a massive transition. After releasing Darius Slay, the Eagles followed by also letting cornerback James Bradberry leave. The All-Pro defensive back didn’t play this season due to a leg injury, which opened playing time for Quinyon Mitchell, Cooper DeJean, and C.J. Gardner-Johnson.
At his best, Bradberry is one of the game’s best cornerbacks. He became a Pro Bowler in 2020, his first season with the New York Giants. Likewise, he was a Second-Team All-Pro in 2022, his first season with the Eagles. Releasing Bradberry voids the three-year, $38 million contract extension he signed in 2023.
Likewise, the Eagles will save $2.1 million in cap space from Bradberry’s post-June 1 release and $6.4 million when savings from Slay’s release are added. Bradberry began his career with the Carolina Panthers, the team that selected him in the second round of the 2016 NFL Draft. He signed a three-year deal with the Giants after failing to secure a contract extension with the Panthers.
