Daniel Jones to Sign One-Year Deal with Colts

Quarterback Daniel Jones is expected to sign a one-year deal with the Indianapolis Colts once the free agency period starts. The terms of his deal remain a secret. The Colts will be his third team after a brief stint with the Minnesota Vikings.

Jones landed with the Vikings after his original team, the New York Giants, granted his request for a release. While the Giants signed Jones to a four-year, $160 million contract in 2023, the investment didn’t yield favorable results. In addition to some injuries, Jones had a losing record as a starter and was benched for Tommy DeVito.

After his release from New York, the Vikings signed him to their practice squad after clearing waivers. He was promoted to the active roster a week before their playoff game against the Los Angeles Rams.

With Indianapolis, Jones will compete with Anthony Richardson for the starting quarterback role. Both quarterbacks are first round selections, with Jones being the sixth overall pick in 2019. Meanwhile, Richardson went fourth overall in 2023.
