Travis Hunter considering retirement if not allowed to play two-way

Travis Hunter could be a generational talent for the team that will draft him in nine days. In addition to his Heisman Trophy, he was also the AP College Football Player of the Year, the Chuck Bednarik Award winner, and the Fred Biletnikoff Award recipient in his final year with the Colorado Buffaloes.

His versatility should make him a top five pick in the 2025 draft. However, the Florida-born athlete would rather hang up his cleats if not allowed to play on both offense and defense. Luckily, as Hunter told CBS Sports’ Garrett Podell, no team showed concerns about him playing both ways.

While playing both cornerback and wide receiver could take a physical toll on his body, Hunter has proven that he can play both positions at a high level. In his final year with Colorado, he had 96 receptions for 1,258 yards and 15 touchdowns. On defense, he had 11 pass deflections, 24 solo tackles, and four interceptions. More importantly, he helped the Buffaloes improve from 4-8 in 2023 to 9-4 and a bowl appearance last year.

With much uncertainty leading into day one of the 2025 draft, Travis Hunter’s NFL team could vary. However, given his unique skill set, it’s difficult to see him falling off the first round.
