T.J. Edwards, Bears agree on a two-year, $20 million contract extension

Linebacker T.J. Edwards is going nowhere after agreeing to a two-year, $20 million contract extension, which includes $16.6 million in guaranteed money. This deal keeps the former Wisconsin standout with his hometown team until 2027.

The Lake Villa-born linebacker joined the Bears in 2023 after signing a three-year, $19.5 million contract. Edwards repaid Chicago’s trust by delivering solid numbers while playing all 34 games over their past two seasons. Edwards had 155 tackles and 2.5 sacks in 2023, followed with a career-high four sacks with 129 tackles last year.

While he went undrafted in 2019, the Philadelphia Eagles took a chance via a three-year, $1.76 million contract. By his third season with the Eagles, he had 130 tackles, a sack, and an interception in 16 games. A year later (2022), Edwards finished with a career-high 159 tackles, seven passes defended, two sacks, and a fumble recovery.

As Edwards returns to Chicago, he will play under a different coaching staff with Ben Johnson as head coach and Dennis Allen as defensive coordinator.
