Quarterback Jalen Milroe possesses a skill set comparable to mobile quarterbacks like Jalen Hurts and Lamar Jackson. His attributes should intrigue teams looking to improve their depth chart in American football’s most important position.
However, one team could be highly interested in taking him but without putting pressure of playing immediately. ESPN senior NFL reporter Jeremy Fowler shared that the Las Vegas Raiders are interested in selecting Milroe and have him sit behind current starter Geno Smith.
The Raiders signed Smith after his former coach with the Seattle Seahawks, Pete Carroll, took over Las Vegas’ NFL team. Milroe could learn a lot from Smith, especially in bouncing back from adversity. Smith had a better second act to his NFL career after a shaky start while with the New York Jets.
While Smith offers a different skill set, Milroe taking over could allow Carroll to use him like Russell Wilson. However, getting Milroe with the sixth overall pick (which Las Vegas owns) could be early, even if some scouts evaluated him as a great mobile quarterback.
The Raiders could take him later, if no other team is interested in the former Alabama standout. Milroe had 2,844 passing yards, 726 rushing yards, and 36 total touchdowns (20 rushing) in his final year with the Crimson Tide.
