While the Pittsburgh Steelers upgraded their wide receiver rotation by adding D.K. Metcalf, it’s still uncertain who will throw the ball to him, George Pickens and their other wideouts. However, as NFL.com Kevin Patra wrote, the Steelers are not done adding QB assets.
Before the 2025 NFL Draft, the Steelers have two quarterbacks on the roster. Mason Rudolph returns after a stint with the Tennessee Titans, while they signed Skylar Thompson after playing for the Miami Dolphins.
Some mock drafts predict that the Steelers will take Shedeur Sanders with their first-round pick. Sanders helped transform Colorado’s football program from a 4-8 team to a 9-4 contender last season.
Likewise, the Steelers could sign four-time NFL Most Valuable Player Aaron Rodgers to stabilize their offense. This stop-gap solution indicates that Pittsburgh could defer in drafting a quarterback to 2026 when there’s a deeper draft class at the position.
Only the Steelers front office knows how they will use their first-round selection. They will see how the draft will unfold before making their move.
