Emeka Egbuka has been the dominant rookie pass catcher so far, but there are also some later-round rookie receivers who look like they’ll be making an impact in future seasons. Such players should be stashed away in dynasty leagues, with a good chance of paying off down the road.
Tory Horton for sure. He’s been making some plays for the Seahawks, catching 3 TDs and scoring on a punt return. He’s looking like he’ll be taking over for Cooper Kupp at some point (perhaps even this year).
Isaac TeSlaa isn’t playing much, but he had those remarkable catches in the first two games. I imagine he’ll get his chance at some point, and he’ll be ready to take advantage when they day comes.
Pat Bryant (pictured) hasn’t made much of an impact so far, but I notice he’s been playing more. He’s been on the field for over half of Denver’s plays the last two weeks. I take that as a sign that he’s picking things up well enough. Denver has two other receivers who came on in their second seasons (Marvin Mims, Troy Franklin), and I’m thinking Bryant could be one of those guys. Only Bryant is bigger, making him look like the possible eventual replacement for 30-year-old Courtland Sutton.
Jack Bech has done much yet. For all of training camp and September, he was buried behind fellow rookie Donte Thornton. But the Raiders have moved Bech past Thornton now, and it’s also apparent Jakobi Meyers won’t be staying in Las Vegas for long. Bech in theory was cut loose in a lot of leagues; makes sense to get him parked on rosters now – seems like he might show some potential during the second half of the season.
My stab at a top 80 for wide receivers is below. Unlike our other products, these aren’t built by carefully projecting each stat. In dynasty leagues (with multiple seasons involved and players and offenses changing) the math would get too complicated. So this is just a by-the-gut attempt to mock out a top 80. I’m thinking a 12-team league with each team starting maybe 3-4 receivers each week. PPR scoring.
In the chart below, rookies tagged with black dots.
I turn my attention to dynasty leagues every Saturday during the regular season, rotating between the four notable positions.
