Reaching for a Jameson

Detroit wideout a big-play scorer

I've never been much of a fan of Jameson Williams. He's a No. 2 receiver in an offense that would like to emphasize the run, and he doesn't catch as many passes as you'd like to see. But the passes he does catch, no one does more with them.

The last two seasons, he's caught 123 passes. Thirty-two wide receivers have caught more than him in that timeframe, including a guy nobody really wants to draft (Jerry Jeudy) and a guy who doesn't currently have a job (Jauan Jennings). But his receptions have gone for 2,118 yards, with ranks 11th at the position, and 14 have gone for touchdowns. And usually of the long variety.

The last two years, Williams' touchdowns have come from an average of 40 yards. That's not just tops in the league, it's 8 yards per touchdown more than anyone else. There will be occasional duds, especially in PPR formats, but there's something to be said for a player who's always just a play away from turning a quiet game into a very good one. Best-ball drafters, take note.

Table shows all wideouts to catch at least 10 TDs the last two seasons.

Interesting to see the Steelers currently have the wideouts who are 2nd and also last on the above table. The Eagles have two of the top 10 (for now; we'll see if A.J. Brown gets traded).

In any case, feels like Williams will probably be underrated in drafts. A good player to have on your side, particularly in non-PPR or leagues that give extra credit for long touchdowns. Because he should be catching a few of those.
