Titans QB Mariota, rookie WR Davis may participate in OTAs

Tennessee quarterback MARCUS MARIOTA and rookie wideout COREY DAVIS are both recovering from offseason surgeries but the team is hopeful that both can participate in upcoming May OTA’s. Both players could have significant fantasy roles this season so the sooner they are able to begin practicing the better.

Corey Davis, Mike Williams and John Ross were all selected in the top 10 picks in last weekend's draft. All three have a shot to be immediate starters; certainly among their new teams' top-3 wideouts, if training camp goes well. Will they be fantasy starters right away?  more »

Factoid: Wide receivers: final year of college

Corey Davis scored 19 total touchdowns at Western Michigan last season. John Ross did too at Washington. Among first-round picks this century, only two wide receivers scored more in their final year of college. Will that production factor into them becoming successful pros?   more »

Three wide receivers go in the top 10. That was a surprise, I think. It doesn’t happen often. And as I look at previous drafts, I’m confident that at least one of those picks will flame out.  more »

Corey Davis of Western Michigan and Mike Williams of Clemson -- those are the favorites to be the top wide receivers selected in April's draft. Just maybe John Ross, after his blazing 40 at the combine. Who will go first? It might not matter, at least in terms of which one goes on to have the better NFL career.   more »

Yesterday I took a brief look at the tendency of heralded rookie wide receivers to fall short of expectations. Despite expectations and hopes, a good chunk of the rookie receivers putting up big numbers are players who weren’t as coveted coming out of the draft.   more »

With wide receivers, there’s a tendency to fall in love with players who are selected in the top 10 or who seem to be the consensus best rookie available. I’m as guilty as the next guy. I remember being high on Tavon Austin and Justin Blackmon. I was high on Corey Coleman (who might still be very good but had a so-so rookie year).  more »
