Question
Hall of Famer Steve McMichael passed away on Wednesday. For most of his career, he played for a Bears defensive front that included three Hall of Famers – Alan Page and Dan Hampton in 1981, and Hampton and Richard Dent for most of the rest of the ‘80s. In the Super Bowl era, what is the only other front four that included three players who went on the Hall of Fame?
Answer
Los Angeles Rams. In 1971, the Rams had Deacon Jones, Merlin Olsen and Jack Youngblood. (That was Jones’ final season and Youngblood’s first). Kansas City in the late ‘60s and early ‘70s also worth a mention, with Bobby Bell, Buck Buchanan and Curley Culp. Bell started his career as a defensive end, but by the time Culp joined the team in 1968, Bell was playing as an outside linebacker.
