The Texans used their first-round pick on wideout DeAndre Hopkins, and aren't shy about their expectations for the receiver nicknamed "Nuk." They expect him to be a Day 1 starter, and contributor.
Gary Kubiak says he expected Hopkins to have a big role "from the get-go." He goes on to compare the rookie to Rod Smith, who he coached in Denver.
Looking for a rookie to start right away often seems optimistic, but it's almost a given for first-rounders in Houston. As the linked article points out, all but two of the team's first-round picks in franchise history have started at least 14 games as rookies. Impressive track record, or reality of a team that looks to address its biggest needs with its biggest picks; whatever the case, it's likely Hopkins will be just one more player added to that statistic.
The Texans would otherwise be looking at Lestar Jean, DeVier Posey (who tore his Achilles in January and is doubtful to be ready for the start of the season, if at all this year) or Keshawn Martin. Most likely, Hopkins will be there across from Andre Johnson, filling the spot vacated by Kevin Walter.
About that nickname: It's not "Nuke," and it has nothing to do with him being an explosive talent. It's a nickname given to him as a baby, for his preferred brand of pacifiers. You can't make this stuff up.
