Lions see "star power" in Bush

The Lions' top target in free agency was running back Reggie Bush, and not only because they wanted to upgrade their running game. They think they can use him all over the field, while a Detroit columnist thinks his intangibles are as important as his ability.

Bob Wojnowski of the Detroit News sees Bush as the replacement for injured Jahvid Best, in the sense that he'll give defenses something dynamic to account for. That in turn will make things easier for the rest of the offense, notably Calvin Johnson.

"I think Reggie’s definitely going to add a dynamic to our offense,” says Scott Linehan. “A lot like what we got with Jahvid, he definitely gives us a guy that can be an effective rusher and receiver.”

The article notes that the Lions last year were 3rd in yards but just 17th in points scored. They're hoping the dimension he brings will help them finish more drives with touchdowns. That doesn't mean he'll carry near the goal line; Mikel Leshoure is more likely in that area. But it could indicate he won't automatically leave the field down there. Perhaps he'll be out there lined up as a receiver.
