Adrian Peterson is probably the league's best running back, while Cordarrelle Patterson was one of its brightest young rookie receivers. Both of those players figure to benefit from the team's latest coaching hire.
Not new head coach Mike Zimmer, who's a defensive-minded coach, necessarily, but rather offensive coordinator Norv Turner. Turner, who the Browns have allowed to leave as they stumble through unbuilding their 2013 coaching staff, has agreed to take over Minnesota's offense.
It looks like a positive for Peterson, given that Turner likes to involve his running backs in the passing game. Not that he was in any danger of being in a committee regardless, but he'll probably catch more passes than he has in the past. None of Cleveland's running backs last season made an impact, but consider the players.
And then there's Patterson, who has the speed and talent to get behind defenses for big plays downfield. That's a staple of Turner's offense, and a factor in Josh Gordon's breakout season, in which he led the league in receiving yards.
The Vikings still need to figure out that pesky quarterback position, of course, but things look good for the rest of the offense with Turner running things.
As for the Browns, well, they say they're taking their time with their hirings, or non-hirings, on purpose. If the goal is to only hire coaches who didn't draw interest from other teams, they're doing great so far.
