Anybody else getting tired of waiting for Coby Fleener to emerge. He’s a former second-round pick, and he played with Andrew Luck at Stanford. You would figure that might give them some kind of rapport.
But that hasn’t been the case.
The Colts played most of last year without Reggie Wayne. And without Dwayne Allen (their other talented young tight end). So everything was in place for Fleener to do more and emerge as a star and whatnot. But it didn’t happen. He caught 52 passes and 4 TDs (out of the team’s 23). Big deal.
In the last two years, Fleener has caught only 58 percent of the passes thrown to him. That ranks last among the 32 tight ends who’ve had at least 100 passes thrown to them.
Yes, Fleener is young. But he’s working with a pretty decent quarterback. Note that a pair of rookie tight ends last year (Tim Wright and Jordan Reed) both finished their first season over 70 percent, and both were working with quarterbacks most would consider well below Luck in throwing talent.
